Lime Cordiale are combining their two passions – live music and the environment – for their new project, Lime Green Festival.

The brotherly duo of Oli and Louis Leimbach, in partnership with Chugg Music, have announced a new all-ages festival built on a commitment to reducing environmental impact while still delivering a vibrant, high-quality day of music, culture and connection.

The good news for South Australians is that Lime Green Festival takes place solely in Adelaide at Point Malcolm Reserve on Saturday 18 April. The festival aims to prove that an off-grid festival model is capable of being successful across the country.

“From the accelerating loss of polar ice to the devastating algal blooms currently choking the South Australian coast, it is impossible to ignore that our climate is at a breaking point,” the brothers said in a statement.

“For the last five years, we’ve wrestled with a deep, personal dilemma as environmentalists: Is our touring contributing to the problem? Does it still make sense in a world that’s hurting? Should we continue to tour at all?

“We’ve decided that the answer isn't to stop, but to change. Live music is about the vital connection between people, and we believe that connection is exactly what we need to fuel a new way of doing things. Our aim is to stage the greenest music festival Australia has ever seen—rethinking everything from renewable stage power and transport to how we handle food and human waste.”

The festival bill features some of Australia’s most exciting acts, with indie folk duo The Dreggs, Adelaide pop superstar aleksiah, rising rockers PASH and the triple j Unearthed Winner all performing.

Not only will there be incredible live music, but the day will feature inspiring talks, interactive workshops and activations that highlight community and business leaders and innovators from the growing regenerative movement.

Pre-sale tickets are available at 9:00am AEDT on Tuesday 20 January, with general on-sale taking place at 9:00am AEDT on Friday 23 January. For more information, visit limegreenfestival.com.

Lime Green Festival have teamed with Aggreko, one of the world’s largest providers of mobile, in an attempt to run the entire festival off-grid, using industrial-scale batteries backed by vegetable-oil generators.

There is also a strong push to eliminate plastic at the festival and prioritise low-impact systems that aren’t harmful to the environment, including re-use and renewable catering solutions, solar and bike-powered device charging and upcycled merch (even some made from seaweed).

The sustainability practices also extend to the food and beverage offerings, with the festival emphasising local, organic and carbon-neutral vendors. Any leftover food will be donated to charities, with free drinking water on site.

The festival is also using Solar Slice, the world-leading environmental ticketing initiative led by FEAT. $1 from every live music ticket sold helps fund science-backed, climate and nature-based projects that cut emissions, restore natural ecosystems and accelerate the shift to a safe climate future.

Oli and Lou have been using Solar Slice on their tours since 2021, enabling them to tour in electric 12-seater vans, power their tour bus with biodiesel, restore Old Growth remnant rainforests in the Booyong Nature Reserve, advocate for World Heritage status for the Great Australian Bight and support the First Nations-led restoration of Lungtalanana Island in the Bass Strait.

Every $1 made from tickets sold for Lime Green Festival will go towards the SA community-led efforts in response to the algal bloom.

“This is a genuine attempt to discover what is possible,” the brothers said. “We aren’t claiming to be perfect; we will make mistakes along the way, but we are trying. We’re inviting you to be part of this experiment. Come and hear some incredible Aussie music, but also come to see what a different future looks like. Let's find out what we can achieve, together.”

Lime Green Festival takes place at Point Malcolm Reserve in Semaphore on Saturday 18 April. Ticketing information available at limegreenfestival.com.
