It’s been a long time coming, but Perth’s LATE 90s finally dropped their sophomore EP Silk earlier this month.
Following on from the previously released singles ‘Intrepid’, ‘Don’t Blink’, ‘Metamorphosis’ and ‘Unbound’, the lads are excited to share ‘Cruel’, the last track taken from the EP that illustrates a more vulnerable side to the band’s alt-rock sound.
“‘Cruel’ is a bit of an ode to a close friend who went through a rough time,” explains vocalist Zaac Morgan. “It’s about the frustration of battling mental illness, feeling like you can’t change who you are, even when you’re giving your all to life and relationships.”
Guitarist Stephen Loreck adds, “We discuss the whole concept of change a lot over the course of the EP – not wanting to, wanting to, being unable to—and then ultimately transforming into a better version of yourself. Realising, hey, I’m a little fucked up but I’m still here, and it’s time I start taking control of my life.”
Now the energetic foursome are embarking on a whirlwind national tour in support of Silk, kicking things off at Jive in Adelaide on Saturday, July 5. It’s then on to Melbourne’s Workers Club on Sunday, July 6, followed by gigs at Wollongong’s La La La’s on Thursday, July 10 and Sydney’s Bootleggers on Friday, July 11, with the final concert taking place at Brisbane’s Black Bear Lodge on Saturday, July 12.

LATE 90s combine nostalgia-fueled alt-rock with modern heavy rock traits and a dash of nu metal to create a compelling synergy that’s both familiar yet distinct.
Inspired by their heroes Deftones, Paramore and Basement, LATE 90s released their debut EP, Everything Is Closer Than It Seems, in 2022, led by the successful single ‘Let It Sink’.
They’ve gone on to share the stage with Taking Back Sunday, Fidlar, Hot Mulligan, and Free Throw, as well as support international heavyweights Neck Deep and State Champs on their recent Australian tour.
Fresh from the success of Silk, LATE 90s are pumped to headline their own tour and share tracks from the EP with fans in the live arena.
