To celebrate the tenth anniversary of their seminal sophomore album Wellness, indie upstarts Last Dinosaurs are releasing a reimagined version of the record titled Wellnxss.
Arriving Friday 13 February via Nettwerk (pre-order here), Wellnxss features all ten tracks from the original album re-recorded, plus five previously unreleased tracks.
Last month the trio shared a new version of ‘Kxrma’ and the previously unreleased track ‘Dive’. Today, Last Dinosaurs have released a reimagined ‘Evie’ (now called ‘Exie’) and the unreleased tune ‘Dead or Alive’.
Reflecting on Wellnxss and the new version of the album, vocalist and guitarist Sean Caskey says, “Ten years ago, Lach, Sloane, Dan, and I released our sophomore album Wellness! It was the second chance for four boys from Brisbane State High to make another leap in the music world.
“I used to look back on this album as a bit of a failure, as there was so much pressure to follow up In a Million Years, but now I see it as the catalyst for the way we make music today. It forced us to completely change our approach to recording music by doing it all ourselves. This was after we dropped the demos on YouTube; the reaction to those lo-fi recordings was a massive surprise to us. That really inspired us to have more confidence in our own abilities and was the driving force behind Yumeno Garden. We’re so thankful to our fans, because it’s your positive energy that motivates us to keep pushing ourselves in the direction we need to go.”
He goes on to add, “These days, Wellness seems to be one of our fan favourites. We never used to play ‘Apollo’ live, but a few years later, it became one of the most enjoyable songs to play. We get requests to play a lot of the songs from Wellness, so we try to squeeze them into the set wherever we can. It means a lot to us that these songs mean something to you. I’ve dwelled on them a lot lately, and some other songs from that same era that never made the album, and we’re looking forward to showing you some special records soon.”
The Brisbane trio are one of the few bands to come out of the mid-00s indie craze who made it big not only in Australia, but across the globe. Brothers Lachlan and Sean Caskey, along with Michael Sloane, have sold out shows in countries including the US, UK, Europe, Southeast Asia, South Africa, and, of course, Australia.
Since bursting onto the scene in 2007, Last Dinosaurs have released five studio albums – In a Million Years (2012), Wellness (2015), Yumeno Garden (2018), From Mexico With Love (2022) and KYORYU (2024) – toured with the likes of Florence + the Machine, Foals, Matt & Kim and Foster the People, and performed at massive festivals including Lollapalooza, Corona Capital and All Things Go Festival.
The release of Wellnxss coincides with a run of shows across North America, with Last Dinosaurs locking in 25 shows from February to March 2026. Hopefully, the lads have an Aussie tour in the works.
