Following on from the release of singles ‘Test of the Mind’ and ‘Solitary Realm’, Melbourne hardcore survivors Iron Mind have shared new track, ‘How You Get Down’.
An uppercut of groovy hardcore beats, ‘How You Get Down’ is a high-energy feast for the ears that’s sure to please longtime Iron Mind fans.
Taken from the band’s upcoming Test of the Iron Mind album, arriving June 13 via Last Ride Records/Flatspot Records (pre-order here or pre-save here), vocalist Sam Octigan had this to say about the song: “We’ve always been a band that champions scene involvement and contribution. That may have come in the form of a pit call, or a conversation at the merch table. Ultimately, hardcore is music for the youth and as we’re returning as somewhat elder statesmen with this record, we wanted to encapsulate that message in a song that was us speaking directly to the youth, the next generation.
“‘Show me how you get down!’ - meaning, we don’t make the rules, we’re not hanging onto the old ways, we want to see the new breed. This is your scene, you create the culture, be empowered to do your thing. We want to be inspired by what you’re doing - so be empowered to do it!”
Produced by Otis Bennie (AWOL), recorded by Sam Johnston at The Black Lodge and mixed by Taylor Young at The Pit, Test of the Iron Mind is shaping up as Iron Mind’s best release yet.
Taking to the road this June and July on their first headline tour since 2014 in support of the record, Iron Mind have locked in eight dates across the nation, with support coming from fellow hardcore beasts The Chain and Melbourne’s powerful Horsepower.
The tour begins in Brisbane with concerts at Crowbar on Friday, June 13 and Sandgate Town Hall on Saturday, June 14. The tour continues with two Melbourne gigs at Howler on Friday, June 20 and Phoenix Youth Centre on Saturday, June 21, before Iron Mind travel to NSW for shows at Sydney’s Lansdowne Hotel on Thursday, June 26, and Newcastle’s Hamilton Station on Friday, June 27.
