Formed in 1997, Insomnium are one of the leading lights of the Finnish black metal scene. Across a career spanning almost three decades, the band has released nine studio albums, with the last three – Winter’s Gate, Heart Like a Grave and Anno 1696 – hitting the number one spot on the Finnish Album Chart.
Anno 1696 is arguably Insomnium's most accomplished release yet, with Metal Injection calling it a “highpoint of modern Finnish melodic death metal as a whole.”
