Adelaide punk rockers Grenadiers are blowing off the cobwebs for a special gig at the Crown & Anchor to commemorate the 10th anniversary of their sophomore album, Summer.
“It’s been 10 years since we released Summer and we’re gonna play that sucker live to celebrate,” the band announced on Instagram.
The trio of vocalist and guitarist Jesse Coulter, bassist and vocalist Phil Meakin and drummer Jimmy Balderston are performing Summer in its entirety, along with a few extra tunes from their three-album catalogue.

Released in January 2015, Summer thrust Grenadiers into the spotlight, turning the emerging Adelaide act into the next big thing. But it wasn’t an easy journey to get there, with the band going through a few lineup changes (Jesse being the sole remaining original member) after the release of their debut album, Songs the Devil Taught Us, in 2010.
Ten tracks of pulsating punk rock that never lets up, Summer dropped to rave reviews. Music Feeds wrote, “[Summer] managed to surpass their previous work entirely,” while The Music called the record the “amber preserved mosquito that you need in your life right now.”
The band’s third album, Find Something You Love and Let It Kill You, arrived in 2017 before Grenadiers disappeared from the spotlight. While still performing sporadically over the past eight years, there has been no new music from the trio.
The band’s 10th anniversary show at the Cranker is a great way to celebrate one of the best SA albums of the 00s and reacquaint yourself with Grenadiers.
