‘Damascus’ is the latest taste from Gorillaz’s upcoming album The Mountain, which arrives February 27 2026, via the band’s own label Kong (pre-order/pre-save here).
A collaboration with Syrian singer Omar Souleyman and rapper Yasiin Bey (formerly known as Mos Def), the track was recorded in Damascus, London, Devon, Mumbai and New York.
Arriving on the heels of the previously released singles ‘The God Of Lying’ featuring IDLES, ‘The Manifesto’ featuring Trueno and Proof and ‘The Happy Dictator’ featuring Sparks, ‘Damascus’ is a vibrant musical carpet with Yassin Bey in fine form.
The track received its live debut at the special surprise performance of Gorillaz’s The Mountain at London’s Copper Box Arena in September and has already become a fan favourite.
As for The Mountain, the Gorillaz’s ninth studio album includes 15 songs and collaborations with a host of musical greats, including producers such as James Ford, Samuel Egglenton, Remi Kabaka Jr. and Bizarrap and artists including Johnny Marr from The Smiths, Yasiin Bey, Black Thought of the Roots and Anoushka Shankar.
Press material describes The Mountain as “a playlist for a party on the border between this world and whatever happens next, exploring the journey of life and the thrill of existence.”
The Mountain will be available as a digital download, standard CD, deluxe 2CD edition with a selection of “Mystery Show” live tracks, standard vinyl, hardback book vinyl edition and limited edition collectors box that comes with exclusive art prints.
Gorillaz have also announced a run of UK and Ireland shows to coincide with the release of the album, with support from Sparks and Trueno. The majority of these shows are sold out, but if you happen to be over that way of the world in March, limited tickets are still available via gorillaz.com.
