Genesis Owusu is hitting the road in May on a whirlwind seven-date tour of Australia in support of his just announced third studio album, REDSTAR WU & THE WORLDWIDE SCOURGE, out Friday 15 May via OURNESS.
One of the country’s best live artists, Owusu’s upcoming album features 15 genre-blending tracks “threading neo-soul into alt pop, synth punk into deep funk, Brit rock and more.”
The album includes the previously released singles ‘PIRATE RADIO’, ‘DEATH CULT ZOMBIE’ and ‘STAMPEDE’. Speaking on the album, Owusu says, “I started writing this album because I was seeing so much of the world and watching what was happening. I felt like I had something important to say. I was writing this almost for necessity because there were so many people not saying what needed to be said. I feel like I’m a student of Nina Simone, and she said, ‘The purpose of an artist is to reflect the times they live in’.”
Owusu’s RED STAR WU’S PIRATE RADIO tour commences at Newcastle’s Bar On The Hill on Thursday 14 May. Owusu then celebrates the album’s release day in his hometown Canberra at UC Refectory on Friday 15 May, followed by gigs at Brisbane’s Fortitude Music Hall on Sunday 17 May, Sydney’s Enmore Theatre on Monday 18 May, Melbourne’s Forum on Thursday 21 May and Adelaide’s Thebarton Theatre on Saturday 23 May, with the final show of the tour taking place at Perth’s Ice Cream Factory on Tuesday 26 May.
Frontier Members pre-sale starts 12pm AEDT Friday 20 March, with general on-sale taking place at 12pm AEDT Monday 23 March. Full ticketing information is available at frontiertouring.com.
