As they prepare to head overseas as support for Amyl and the Sniffers, Naarm/Melbourne-based rockers Floodlights have shared new single, ‘Tricky’.
Premiering on BBC6 with Huw Stephens, ‘Tricky’ is an uplifting piano-laced rocker that’s sure to be a live staple on the band’s upcoming regional tour.
“It’s the first love song we’ve written,” muses Floodlights’ Louis Parsons. “Although it still sounds like us, we did want ‘Tricky’ to be something that felt new. We leant more on synth and rhythm to drive this track which helped to create that feeling of euphoria that comes from letting go of the past and embracing the future.
“We felt like tipping everything upside down with this one so we went a little more DIY. We just wanted to make something that felt like us stepping towards change. We recorded ‘Tricky’ in our Melbourne studio with Archie in the engineer seat. We recorded in a way that left space for spontaneity - prepared without being overly planned.”
The single is accompanied by a music video shot and edited by the band in the UK that features bassist Joe Draffen dancing his way through Southampton, Brighton, Leeds and Poole. Check it out below.
