Naarm/Melbourne-based rockers Floodlights have shared tasty new tune, ‘Buoyant’, the final single taken from their upcoming album, Underneath, due March 21 via [PIAS] Recordings (pre-order/pre-save here).
A moody art-rock wonder with some great trumpet playing, ‘Buoyant’ is a live favourite that ebbs and flows before ending in a wallop of instrumentation. Speaking on the track, the band’s Louis Parsons says: “This song is about aging and how it can be tricky to reconcile with. So often as a young person, you are quick to point out the flaws in the older generation, traits that have been instilled in them but not in you.
“It made me think, what will my generation be stubborn about and will my views become outdated and if they do, will I have the openness to change them and listen to new beliefs. I don’t want to just sink below the noise, I want to have the grace to change”.
The single is accompanied by a music video co-directed by Ava Clifforth and Henry Gosper of good grief. It shows two people who fall into a pool at a party, and as they swim underwater, we see their lives play out as a couple over a lifetime.
