The album anniversaries are coming thick and fast, with the latest act to hitch their horse to the nostalgia wagon being ‘90s alt-rockers Everclear.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of their seminal sophomore album, Sparkle and Fade. Released in May 1995, the album peaked at #9 on the ARIA Album Chart and is certified platinum in three countries.

Spawning the hit singles ‘Santa Monica’, ‘Heroin Girl’ and ‘Heartspark Dollarsign’, Sparkle and Fade catapulted Everclear to worldwide success and remains one of the most iconic albums of the ‘90s.

Sparkle and Fade was not the first album I had made, but it was the album I had wanted to make my whole life. It changed everything for me and Everclear,” shares vocalist and founding member Art Alexakis.

“Because of its success and lasting impact, this band has survived and prospered for three decades, and this tour celebrating Sparkle and Fade is another way of us saying ‘thank you’ to all of the incredible fans – old and new. We’re excited to bring this tour to Australia. In addition to all the hits and fan favourites, we’re going to pretty much play the whole album through the course of the show to commemorate this 30th anniversary. If you are a fan of this record, you do not want to miss this tour!”

Everclear’s epic 16-date anniversary tour begins with a gig at Newcastle’s Bar on the Hill on Friday 21 November and continues with shows in both capital cities and regional towns, including Caringbah, St Kilda, Townsville, Brisbane, Duncraig and Perth, with the final concert taking place in Adelaide at The Gov on Saturday 13 December.

There are two pre-sale options available via Spotify (Password: SPARKLE) and Bandsintown (Password: FADE30) that commence on Wednesday 30 July 30 at 9am AEST. General on-sale kicks off on Thursday 31 July at 9am AEST. For full ticking information, visit everclearmusic.com.

One of the biggest bands to come out of the Cali rock scene of the ‘90s, Everclear formed in 1992, releasing their debut album World of Noise a year later via indie label Tim/Kerr Records.

Creating a buzz with the record, Everclear signed with Capitol Records and dropped Sparkle and Fade in 1995. A monster smash, Everclear dominated the charts throughout the late ‘90s and early ‘00s with follow-up albums So Much for the Afterglow (1997), Songs from an American Movie Vol. One: Learning How to Smile (2000) and Songs from an American Movie Vol. Two: Good Time for a Bad Attitude (2000).

While the band’s popularity dropped as indie rock, electronica and hip hop began to take over the charts in the mid-00s, Everclear continued to release records at a steady rate, with their most recent being 2015’s Black Is the New Black.

Everclear has gone through multiple members over the journey, with the current lineup set to tour Australia comprising sole original member Art Alexakis (vocals, guitar) alongside Davey French (guitar), Freddy Herrera (bass) and Brian Nolan (drums).

Catch Everclear on Saturday 13 December at The Gov. For ticketing information, visit everclearmusic.com.
