New kids on the block Birdland have released their debut EP, He Was Me.
Comprised of 17-year-old triplets Oscar, Conrad and Francis Cvitan, He Was Me arrives off the back of singles ‘Maybe Lately’, ‘No Trouble’ and ‘Middle Ground’, all of which got triple j airplay.
The EP’s focus track is latest single ‘Hold Me Tight’, a breezy indie number about connection that showcases the Western Australian trio’s knack for emotive songwriting and catchy riffs.
Discussing their debut EP, Birdland explain, “As triplets, a big part of our journey has been learning how to understand and find ourselves as individuals whilst still going through life together. These songs show those moments of self-reflection and growth, as well as simple things like people watching, where you begin to understand yourself through observing others.”
The band adds, “Hold Me Tight is about how lucky you are to have finally found your people. It’s a song about those specific people who don't just show up for the easy parts, but who actually stick by you when things get messy and life goes sideways. The lyrics dive into that shift from feeling isolated in your own head to feeling grounded by the ones you can truly be yourself around. It captures the relief of knowing you aren't alone anymore. The song is for and is about the people who stick around, the people that care, the people stay close no matter what.”
