Kaurna Land/Adelaide-born and based dreampop artist effie isobel returns with new single ‘Higher Gear’.
Following on from ‘Moon Made’, which dropped earlier this year, isobel’s latest is a vibrant indie pop burst of gritty guitars and swirling synths brought together by the creative’s layered harmonies.
“I wanted this song to feel upbeat, driving, whimsical and like it’s pushing forward, with a slight bit of impatience,” isobel explains.
Produced by Benny Tamblin, Michael Carver and Bethan Maddison and mastered by Carver, Maddison and Sean Bell, ‘Higher Gear’ also features musicians Andreanna Massacci, Zach Caporale and Luigi Donnarumma.
Speaking on the inspiration behind the track, isobel shares: “I wrote this song after playing a show alongside another musician who I’d been friends with for a while, but this time something felt different and I realised I had a massive crush.
“In a funny turn of events, my drummer called in sick on the day we were recording, so I had to call my crush in to track drums before she knew the song was about her. The session was silly and fun, and we’ve been dating ever since — I like to think this song acted like a bit of a spell.”
