Following on from the piano-led single ‘Real Love’, Brizzy noise rock trio DZ Deathrays have returned to their roots with slamming new single, ‘Skyline’.
Drifting into indie rock territory, the track has a much more polished feel to it, with DZ continuing to showcase their evolving sound on the song. Inspired by The Strokes, ‘Skyline’ is another nugget of club rock from DZ Deathrays.
“Skyline is an idea that leans more into the indie rock world of DZ,” explains vocalist and guitarist Shane Parsons. “A place I personally love, anything 2000’s but also a place where melody and interesting tones can come to the forefront. I remember showing this track as a potential idea to Luke Henery when we were working on the first half of the album, and he persuaded me to continue to turn it into a fully fledged track.
“It’s a song that I wanted to feel like The Strokes, even though when it was finished, it definitely felt heavier and more like us. Lyrically, it’s a note to my future self and anyone else, to just say no matter what, a lot of answers come to you when you’re staring off into the distance, kind of forgetting about the world. I had that while driving to work and seeing the skyline as I drove down the mountains towards Sydney. Sonically there’s one of my favourite parts of the album on there, Lachy’s solo, which we glitched out with effects to make it something else completely. It’s definitely a special moment on the album.”
‘Skyline’ is the second track taken from DZ Deathray’s upcoming new album Easing Out of Control, which arrives Friday 16 January 2026 (pre-order/pre-save here). The album, which was originally envisioned as two EPs, was recorded at the band’s home studio and features contributions from Violent Soho’s Luke Henery on bass.
