Two years on since the release of her debut EP MAYDAY, Sydney-based Kamilaroi/Samoan artist Becca Hatch returns with thrilling new single ‘Garden (Bang Goes the Drum)’.
Merging contemporary R&B with club-ready beats and an enchanting saxophone solo by Andre Law, ‘Garden (Band Goes the Drum)’ is a sonically exhilarating piece of music made for nights on the town.
Co-written with Sean Kenihan of Northeast Party House, mixed by Cam Parkin and mastered by Klaus Hill, ‘Garden’ is the first single from Hatch’s upcoming Black Flower Project.
“After spending the last year locking in on making new music, I found myself in the studio with Sean Kenihan (Northeast Party House). Immediately, we clicked and started fleshing out this track. I’m so excited to be entering this new era, and cannot wait to show everyone all that we’ve been working on,” Becca Hatch shares.
Press material describes Black Flower Project as a body of work exploring “the journey of a young Aboriginal/Samoan woman navigating growth, self-discovery, and taking up space in a world that was never designed to hold women of colour gently.” Along with Kenihan, the album also features collaborations with Beso Palma, MXXWLL and Lucy Blomkamp.
Since breaking out with her 2020 single ‘2560’, Becca Hatch has gone on to release her debut EP MAYDAY, earned ARIA and APRA nominations and won the 2025 APRA Professional Development Award and the 2024 NIMA Award for Best Breakthrough Artist.
Hatch has also supported the likes of R&B superstars Tinashe and Mahalia, performed at festivals including Beyond The Valley and Strawberry Fields, and even taken to the stage for a halftime performance at an NRL game between the Tigers and the Roosters.
