Next year marks the 20th anniversary of Bat for Lashes’ debut album, Fur and Gold. To commemorate the release, Bat for Lashes is reissuing the album on CD and vinyl (pre-order here), with the digital version already available to listen to here.
The musical project of Natasha Khan, Bat for Lashes made an immediate impact with the release of Fur and Gold. The album was nominated for the Mercury Prize and spawned the singles ‘The Wizard’, ‘Trophy’, ‘Prescilla’ and ‘What's a Girl to Do?’.
Looking back on the album, Khan said: “My debut record Fur and Gold is almost 20 years old, and still holds such a special place in my heart. Listening back through the whole album recently, side by side with my collaborator and producer David Kosten, brought a proud tear to my eye… no compromise, tons of space, shit midi sounds, tongue in cheek lyrics, thunder and lightning, girl group BV’s, heartbreak and magic… the record I had been waiting my whole life to make. I think she stands up, I hope more people get to live in this universe with me.”
The new version of Fur and Gold has been remastered by engineer Frank Arkwright (Echo and the Bunnymen, Belle & Sebastian, Mogwai) at Abbey Road Studios, with the digital and CD versions coming with nine bonus tracks made up of seven previously unreleased demos and two tracks recorded for the BBC.

Bat for Lashes followed up Fur and Gold with the equally successful Two Suns, which was also shortlisted for the Mercury Prize and peaked at #5 on the UK Albums Chart, making it Bat for Lashes’ highest position on the album charts.
Kahn has released a further four albums under the Bat for Lashes moniker, including last year’s The Dream of Delph, an album about the birth of her child during the COVID-19 pandemic.
