Adelaide alternative metal outfit alt. have released their anticipated new EP Nevermore via Resist Records (AU) and SharpTone Records (ROW).
Nevermore is a concept EP set in 2073 in a world ravaged by war, corruption and greed. As those with money flee the Earth for the new world Nephilim, the album’s six tracks focus on an unnamed protagonist who is leading a revolution in a bid to break humanity’s destructive cycle.
Produced, mixed and mastered by Callan Orr (Dream On Dreamer, Hands Like Houses), Nevermore leans “into ideas of systemic control, imbalance of power and the boiling point that follows suppression.”
‘Passage’, the third single from Nevermore, following ‘Sucker Punch’ and ‘They’ve Always Lived in the Castle’, has a post-hardcore anthemic quality and continues the narrative about a couple trying to escape from a dying Earth.
“They risk everything for a chance at a new life on the distant planet Nephilim,” says vocalist Daniel Richards. “Their only way out is the super rail. A perilous route plagued by bandits who prey on those brave enough to make the journey. With survival far from guaranteed, the pair are forced to confront an impossible choice: remain on a collapsing world, or gamble their lives on the unknown in pursuit of hope.”
Getting together in 2019, alt. first made waves with the release of their 2020 EP, dysfunctional. This led to them signing with Resist Records and SharpTone Records in 2022 and dropping their debut album ABEYANCE a year later.
The quintet of vocalist Daniel Cullen-Richards, guitarists Daniel Wells-Smith and Simon Aistrope, bassist Oscar Harding and drummer James Mullins have amassed millions of streams, toured alongside the likes of Don Broco, Enter Shikari, Saosin, Dayseeker, Karnivool, Cog and Windwaker and performed at festivals such as Froth and Fury Fest and Unify Off the Record.
To celebrate the release of Nevermore, alt. are throwing a launch party at Lion Arts Factory on Saturday 20 June. Tickets on sale now via moshtix.com.au.
