Adelaide Duo TOWNS Enter New Era With ‘MAGNIFICENT’

Returning earlier this year with punishing new single 'SAY IT ALL', local duo TOWNS have shared another taste of their new era in the form of 'MAGNIFICENT'.

Produced by Alan Day (Four Year Strong), 'MAGNIFICENT' is a euphoric slice of '90s-inspired rock from the duo of Dan Steinert and Aston Valladares. Beginning as a simple guitar loop written out of boredom soon became the foundation for one of the band's favourite songs.

"The whistles were one of those 'this would be so silly, right?' moments," Valladares explains. "But we kept them and that ended up becoming the whole philosophy of our next record. Instead of overthinking everything, we just started trusting our first instincts."

Speaking about the meaning behind the track, Valladares adds, "It's about sitting there wondering if everyone else is doing it better than you, constantly questioning yourself and trying to trust your own instincts despite all the noise. We all want to be magnificent, but maybe the comparison is the thing stopping us from realising we already are." 

'MAGNIFICENT' is accompanied by a music video directed by the TOWNS' Rachel Whitford in her directorial debut in collaboration with Liam Woolcock of Leave the Crumbs.

Adelaide fans can catch TOWNS headlining a free show as part of the 27 Music Party during Indie Con at the Ed Castle on Wednesday 29 July.

'MAGNIFICENT' gives music lovers another taste of TOWNS' upcoming sophomore album that was recorded in Western Massachusetts with regular collaborator Alan Day. The album is set to show a new emotional depth to the band's songs and showcase their growth as songwriters.

Since coming together almost a decade ago, TOWNS have built a loyal following across the country, selling out shows in their hometown and sharing stages with the likes of Turnstile, Hot Mulliga, Boston Manor, Trophy Eyes, Stand Atlantic, The Jungle Giants, Ruby Fields, Dear Seattle and more.

With a new album and major live announcements on the cards, it's shaping up as a big 12 months for TOWNS and their fans.
