Adelaide Hills rockers Indiago have shared new single ‘The Avenue’, the band’s first release of 2026.
A dynamite dose of contemporary rock, ‘The Avenue’ continues Indiago’s evolution as a band. The track “explores the tension between reckless escape and self-preservation,” with the opening acoustic guitar giving way to ripping riffs and punishing percussion.
Written and workshopped by the band in bassist Shane Cox’s home studio, the song was recorded in Treetop Studios with the help of the band’s drummer and producer Matt Cooper.
Ahead of the single’s release, the band answered several questions about The Avenue’ and what’s to come from the band this year.
What was the inspiration behind ‘The Avenue’?
‘The Avenue’ came from a mix of observation and a bit of self-reflection that hit harder than expected. It started with Will looking at behaviour in others, that cycle of wanting to escape, then trying to pull yourself back together, but the more he sat with it, the more he realised he was staring straight at parts of himself too. It turned into a song about that internal scrap, self-destruction versus self-preservation, and the reality that there’s no clean win in that fight.
What’s the process when it comes to writing a song together?
It’s a bit of a Frankenstein these days. We’re writing a lot remotely, sending ideas back and forth, then getting in a room to shake it out properly. With ‘The Avenue’, we actually weren’t sold on it at first until Will walked in and played it stripped back on an acoustic, no bells, no whistles. That was the moment it clicked. If it doesn’t work like that, it doesn’t work at all. From there, we just build it up and let it rip.
There’s a real euphoric, stadium rock feel to this one. Does this hint at the music you are keen to produce moving forward?
Definitely. We’ve always had little moments of that stadium feel in our music, even on The Line, but we feel ourselves getting more and more pulled toward it now. There’s something about that big, open, anthemic sound that just feels right for us. We’re still holding onto the emotional side, but we’re leaning into making things hit harder, feel bigger, and carry a bit more weight when they land.
Can fans expect more music from Indiago in 2026?
100%. We’ve found a really good rhythm with writing and releasing, and we’re not slowing down. We originally set out to do an EP, but it’s already starting to feel like it could become something bigger.
