Multi-award-winning First Nations rap ensemble 3% are back with new track ‘Welcome 2 Country’, the group’s first release of 2026.
Following the previously released singles ‘These Days’, ‘Running Through My Head’, ‘Our Greats’ and ‘Betterman’, which all dropped last year, 3% continue to their evolution with ‘Welcome 2 Country’, a bold message about culture, identity and connection featuring guest vocalist, Darumbal and Tongan woman Mi-kaisha.
“As a Noongar man that has the privilege to travel with my profession, I understand the importance of acknowledging and paying respects to the many different lands I work on, so seeing small-minded people feel so attacked and hurt by something like a ‘Welcome to Country’ is confronting, especially when you make the mistake of checking the comment section on social media apps,” says Dallas Woods about the track. “Racism is alive and well, and true to my spirit, I will always talk my truth. No matter where you stand on this continent, you stand on stolen land. The truth hurts, so that's why they stay triggered - still a lot of work to do.”
Nooky adds, “‘Welcome 2 Country’ is a song that reflects on the state of discourse around welcome to countries and their perceived meaning. We didn’t cross through each other’s land without permission before the first fleet arrived, and it was a sign of respect and honour and a sharing of land and resources by your neighbours or whoever’s lands you were crossing, once they gave permission for you to access their resources.
“‘Welcome 2 Country’ does not mean welcome to Australia. It’s much deeper than that. It hurts to see my people be so open by welcoming the colonisers to share in the land we all live on today and be met with such hate and ignorance. We put that feeling in the song, this track is a stand against that. It’s us saying they will not erase this cultural practice which existed long before the borders of states and territories that we know today. Back when I first started rapping I used to freestyle a welcome/acknowledgement before my set so it’s also a moment of me returning to my roots and marking a new era for 3% a more powerful era. Kill The Dead was vulnerable, this new album and music is the strength that comes after that healing. ‘Welcome 2 Country’ is 3% honouring our cultural roots and upbringing. This is much more than a formality, it’s a reminder of who owns this land.”
3%’s new single is accompanied by a music video directed by Ryan Haire and Henry Smith you can check out below.
