Granite Island Discs: Timothea Moylan

The Head of Partnerships & Operations at Renew Adelaide and The Note's culture queen can’t get enough of Talking Heads’ ‘This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody)’
What five songs would you take to a desert island?
1. Caroline Polachek – ‘Welcome To My Island’
2. Widowspeak – ‘Plum’
3. Talking Heads – ‘This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody)’
4. Type O Negative – ‘My Girlfriend’s Girlfriend’
5. Pixies – ‘No. 13 Baby’
If you could only pick one, what would it be?
I’d happily listen to ‘This Must Be The Place’ every single day until I die. I will never tire of it.
What’s your favourite album?
Jungle’s Volcano is perfection from beginning to end – eternal happiness neatly packaged in 14 groovy tracks. However, I’m currently loving Fontaines D.C.’s new album, Romance. It’s an interesting departure from the sound we know, like The Cure jumped off into the deep end of Britpop, and I love it. And my favourite album to fall asleep to is Promises by Floating Points, Pharoah Sanders and the London Symphony Orchestra (but it’s so enchanting that I sometimes forget to fall asleep).
What’s your favourite song by an SA artist/band?
Colourblind just released their self-titled debut album and I’ve had its second track, ‘Body Horror’, on high rotation. It features a soundbite from the film The Fly, which, as a horror junkie and Jeff Goldblum fangirl, is a real treat. Watching the jam-packed Cranker band room sing it back to the band at their album launch last month was something else.
Favourite music-related memory?
Patti Smith is and always will be my muse. I was lucky enough to see her play at Hamer Hall in Melbourne in 2017. She closed out her set with a cover of The Who’s ‘My Generation’. She spat and snarled her way through the song and broke a bunch of guitar strings. Her hair somehow defied gravity. She was 70 years old at the time and it’s still the punkest thing I’ve ever seen.
Never miss a beat
