triple j Announces Hottest 100 of Australian Songs Countdown

 

Celebrating their 50th year, the radio station is counting down the top 100 Australian songs of all time.

To celebrate 50 years showcasing the best bands this country has to offer, triple j are counting down the top 100 Australian songs of all time.

Taking over the entire triple j network, including triple j, Double j, triple j Unearthed and triple j Hottest, the countdown will commence on Saturday 26 July, kicking off at 9:30am local time.

The day will be hosted by an all-star cast of triple j and Double j legends, including Ash McGregor & Dave Woodhead, Dylan Lewis & Yumi Stynes, Abby Butler & Tyrone Pynor, Concetta Caristo & Luka Muller, and Zan Rowe & Lucy Smith. 

Voting is open now, with triple j gathering a massive list of Aussie tracks you can select from at the official Hottest 100 voting page. Can’t find your favourite song? No problem, as there is a handy section where you can manually add any song you like.

triple j’s Hottest 100 of Australian songs countdown is open to everyone, with any Aussie song able to be nominated as long as it was released before the station’s official 50th birthday, which fell on January 19 2025.

Voting closes on Thursday 17 July at 4:30pm local time, so you’ve got a month to sort your list of fav Aussie tracks.

A stack of triple j presenters and Aussie artists have already revealed their top picks on the triple j website.

The great Jimmy Barnes went for Jet’s ‘Are You Gonna Be My Girl’, Tash Sultana picked Matt Corby’s ‘Miracle Love’, Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers put forward The Veronica’s ‘Forever’ and Missy Higgins spotlighted the Waifs’ ‘London’s Calling’, which some might see as a controversail choice by some.

triple j’s Hottest 100 Australian countdown takes place on Saturday 26 July at 9:30am local time. You can vote for your favourite Aussie songs via the triple j website or the triple j app.
