Two of Australia’s great songwriters, Tim Rogers and Lance Ferguson, are teaming up for new project The Ferguson Rogers Process. Preparing the release of their debut album Substance And Or Style, arriving November 15 (pre-save here), the duo have shared the album’s vibrant second single, ‘Dirty-Clean’.
An uplifting disco-inspired number, ‘Dirty-Clean’ will have you grooving along to the seductive bass and Rogers’ familiar drawl. It’s exactly the type of tune you would expect from Rogers and Ferguson, who first collaborated in 2012 on The Bamboos’ (Ferguson’s band) track ‘I Got Burned’.
That song was a massive hit and led to two sold out national tours and The Bamboos and Rogers jumping in the studio together and recording 2015s critically acclaimed album, The Rules of Attraction.
After recently reconnecting and deciding to lay down more music together, the two realised what they were writing didn’t fit under The Bamboos and Tim Rogers banner, so they came up with The Ferguson Rogers Process.
“It’s kind of funny how we ended up calling this thing we do a ‘Process’,” says Ferguson. “I like to think that ‘The Process’ in this case is hopefully what happens when someone experiences the music. I hope it ends up soundtracking some wild times. I’ve spent the last 30 years involved in making music with the primary purpose of inducing humans to move with reckless, rhythmic abandon. Why stop now?”
As for Rogers, he’s been patiently waiting to hear from Ferguson. “Apart from noodling for catfish and practising my four-seam fastball, dancing is my favourite clothes-wearing activity, so when Lance called me on the Boo-phone and told me he had ten songs written with the express intention of being dance songs I jumped like Catfish Hunter to the lil’ red desk and got writing. Immediately.”
The release of ‘Dirty-Clean’ follows first single ‘Live Together’, a fun 70s party starter that dropped last month.
Comprising ten songs, Substance And Or Style is produced by Ferguson who also plays all the instruments on the album bar drums and percussion, with Bamboos member Graeme Pogson stepping in. Recorded, mixed and mastered by John Castle (Cub Sport, Vance Joy, Alex Lahey), Substance And Or Style could be one of the surprise releases of 2024.
Substance And Or Style arrives November 15 via Impressed Recordings. Pre-save your copy here.
