The inaugural Fuji Rock Festival took place near Mt Fuji in 1997 and was a huge disaster. A typhoon struck during the first day of the festivals, with organisers forced to cancel the second day.
The following year, the festival moved to Toyosu, on Tokyo's waterfront, before finding its permanent home at Naeba Ski Resort.
Since then, it’s been a stalwart of Japan’s festival calendar, attracting a diverse range of artists from across the globe. Last year saw Fred Again.., Vulfpeck and Vampire Weekend headline alongside Haim, The Hives, Little Simz, James Blake, Ok Go and more.
