Dark MOFO in Hobart is arguably Australia’s best winter festival, but Tassie’s sister city Launceston is looking to challenge the crown with the announcement of Island Escape.
This three-day festival held at Launceston's Inveresk Precinct from July 3-5, 2026, features a diverse program with a focus on music, food and art.
On the music front, the festival is headlined by Perth rockers Birds of Tokyo, ‘90s favourites Spiderbait and dancefloor starter Hot Dub Time Machine. There will also be a silent disco inside an igloo, which promises to be a unique experience, with local musos set to perform across the three days.
Island Escape will also see demonstrations by celebrity chefs and offer a wide variety of winter food and drink from Tassie farmers and producers, with glowing fire pits and art installations positioned throughout the festival grounds.
Island Escape isn’t just for adults, with kids’ workshops, storytelling sessions and interactive games available to enjoy.
As the sun sets and the winter chill arrives, huddle around fire pits as Australia’s best live music acts keep the party going well into the night.
Island Escape Festival takes place at Inveresk Precinct in Launceston from July 3-5, 2026. Tickets on sale now via islandescapefestival.com.au.
