Orange County punk rockers Social Distortion have announced their long-overdue eighth studio album, Born To Kill, is out Friday 8 May via Epitaph Records (pre-order here).
Arriving 15 years after their critically acclaimed Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes, the album has been described as “11 songs of pure, unadulterated rock ’n' roll fury, joy and catharsis.”
Born To Kill is also the band’s first album since vocalist and guitarist Mike Ness’ recovery from cancer, with the title track a brutal dose of fiery optimism with nods to Lou Reed (“Rock ’n’ Roll Animal gonna come your way!”) and Iggy and the Stooges (“The agenda is yeah to Search and Destroy”).
Co-produced by Ness and Dave Sardy (A Perfect Circle, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds), Born To Kill features guest appearances from Benmont Tench of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and Lucinda Williams, along with collaborative cover art by Ness and Shepard Fairey.
‘Born To Kill’ is accompanied by a music video of Social Distortion performing the song live on a soundstage intercut with footage of famous artists, with direction from Lance Bangs.
Elder statesmen of the Californian punk scene, Social Distortion have been fighting the good fight for more than 40 years.
Emerging in 1978, it was their critically acclaimed self-titled third long player that finally got them noticed by critics, before their 1992 follow-up, Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell, brought Social Distortion worldwide success thanks to the hit single ‘Bad Luck’, which remains the band’s highest charting single.
Establishing themselves as punk rock pioneers, Social Distortion have garnered over 800 million streams across their entire catalogue, averaged over 8 million global streams monthly and played shows all over the globe.
