Powerhouse vocalist and singer-songwriter Ruel has announced the release of his new album Kicking And Screaming, which acts as a sequel to last year’s Kicking My Feet.
Arriving Friday 12 June via Recess Records/Virgin Music (pre-order here), the 10-track album features an all-star cast of collaborators – Julian Bunetta, John Ryan, Kenny Beats, M-Phazes, Dan Wilson and Leroy Clampit – who helped bring the record's reflective, melodic sound to life.
Ruel has also shared the album’s first single, ‘Don’t Say That’. Co-written by Joel Little (Taylor Swift, Lorde, Gracie Abrams) and Sean Douglas (Selena Gomez, 5 Seconds of Summer, Lewis Capaldi), the track is a vulnerable break-up ballad that finds Rule wondering: “Maybe it's time to accept that it's over / it's best that you go / it's been so nice to know you" before pulling back, still unwilling to let go”.
Speaking on the track, Ruel says, “At the start of writing ‘DST’, I felt like it wasn’t right/ready for Kicking My Feet…but as Joel (Little), Sean (Douglas) and I continued to revisit and develop it, my brain completely switched sides and now, honestly, it’s one of my favourite songs that I’ve written. Of course, M-Phazes stepped in to add the extra bite it needed. Where we ended up with the song felt like it was the perfect way to set up the new chapter. And now here we are... releasing it as the first track off the new album!”
The single is accompanied by a music video directed by Jackie! Zhou (Chappell Roan's ‘HOT TO GO!’ and ‘Super Graphic Ultra Modern Girl’) that follows Ruel in a subway station as he deals with his emotions while the world keeps on moving around him.

Having moved from Sydney to Los Angeles last year, along with signing to Giant Music, Ruel is on the path to global domination. He’s currently touring South America on the Lollapalooza festival circuit across Chile, Argentina and Brazil.
Once that tour ends, Ruel heads out on the second leg of his North American Kicking My Feet Tour, with support from emerging soul-pop singer Chelsea Jordan and rising San Francisco native Mercer Henderson.
