Award-winning songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Ruby Gill has added an Adelaide date to her Some Kind of Control Australian tour.
Performing at Oddio in Bowden on Saturday 9 August (tickets on sale here), the tour comes in support of her sophomore album, Some Kind of Control.
Released in March, the album features Angie McMahon, Annie-Rose Maloney, Hannah McKittrick and more, and has been described by Gill as “looser, gayer, and even more raw” than her previous work.
The Joburg-born, Naarm-based Gill sold out the first leg of her tour along the East Coast and is now preparing to play shows in NSW and QLD before stopping in Adelaide in August for what promises to be an intimate evening of live music.
Gill will be supported by a local artist Jamie Lena and Masie B., with food courtesy of The Filipino Project and wines by Delinquente Wine Co., Frederick Stevenson and Giovanni Armani Giorgio, plus Bizzarro Spritz and tap beers.
Known for her emotive lyrics, hilarious wit and thoughtful compositions, Ruby Gill has been thrilling audiences since the release of her 2018 single, ‘Your Mum’, which became a triple j favourite and has garnered millions of streams.
Gill’s debut album, i’m gonna die with this frown on my face, dropped in 2022 to universal acclaim and was nominated for an Australian Music Prize and Best Folk Work at the Music Victoria Awards.
Some Kind of Control, which dropped in March, debuted at #26 on the ARIA Album Charts and peaked at #5 on the Australian Country Chart. The AU Review called the record “a stunning and haunting dive into Gill’s attempts to regain agency over her body, foreign-ness and queerness.”
