New York No Wave Queen Lydia Lunch is teaming with Black Cab’s Andrew Coates for a tour of Australia and New Zealand performing the songs of synth–punk duo Suicide and Suicide vocalist Alan Vega.
Commemorating the 10th anniversary of Vega’s passing, Lunch and Coates (along with Black Cab’s James Lee) will pay tribute to the revered vocalist, who formed Suicide in the ‘70s with multi-instrumentalist Martin Rev.
Suicide’s synth-punk sound caught the attention of music lovers across the world, with the band’s 1977 debut considered a huge influence on the post-punk and synth-punk genres.
Vega also released more than ten solo albums and was much loved by his peers, with dozens of his songs having been covered by other artists, including Henry Rollins, Bruce Springsteen, the Savages and more.
The tour begins in New Zealand with a show at Meow in Wellington on Sunday 14 June. Lunch and co then head to Australia for shows at The Tote in Melbourne on Wednesday 17 June, Brisbane Powerhouse in Brisbane on Saturday 20 June, Factory Floor in Sydney on Sunday 21 June and Ed Castle in Adelaide on Wednesday 24 June, with the final concert at Perth’s Milk Bar on Thursday 25 June.

Lunch first met Suicide in the ‘70s after moving to New York and formed a longtime bond with both Vega and Rev, often joining them on stage to perform the song ‘Frankie Teardrop’.
Since Vega’s passing in 2016, Lunch has performed several Suicide tribute shows, often with French experimental artist Marc Hurtado, who featured on a duet of ‘Frankie Teardrop’, recorded by Vega and Lunch for Vega’s 2010 album Sniper. Lunch and Hurtado also released the live album Metempsychosis: Reincarnate the Music of Alan Vega + Suicide.
Last here in 2024 on her Spoken Word tour, Lunch made an impromptu appearance at the Tote, backed by acclaimed Melbourne electronic duo Black Cab, which sold out in three days.
Returning to the country to celebrate the life of Vega, this tour is not to be missed for fans of Suicide and Vega.
