After it was revealed that John Butler would be performing as part of the Adelaide Guitar Festival 2025, the accomplished singer-songwriter announced he has a new album on the way.
PRISM, Butler’s tenth solo release and third album in his Four Season project, which includes the previously released Running River and instrumental album Still Searching, arrives September 5 via Jarrah Records (pre-order here).
Produced by Butler alongside James Ireland (POND, San Cisco), PRISM is a return to Butler’s one-man busking days, with the ARIA winner sharing instrumental duties with Ireland on the album.
“It’s a big life and, the world, in many ways, is in turmoil. Personally, I did a lot of soul-searching and reflecting as this record took shape,” Butler explains.
“For me, PRISM is a cathartic release, a celebration of going solo, moving away from the John Butler Trio moniker, and yet another sonic stretch as I continue to refine my musical journey. The title reflects the sonic and emotional “bandwidth” I wanted to explore: the whole spectrum of what it is to be human. Love, death, politics, inner and outer turmoil and redemption.”
To coincide with the album announcement, Butler has shared new single, ‘So Sorry’. The track has a throwback feel, with Butler crooning about love over a groovy melody.
“Long relationships end up having a lot of water under the bridge,” Butler says. “We end up saying and doing things we live to regret. You get together as ‘kids’ and if you’re lucky, you learn how to regulate and become adults together. But no one gets out unscathed.”

Ahead of the release of PRISM, Butler is hitting the road for a run of international dates across the States. He will be joined by his new band featuring original John Butler Trio member Michael Barker on drums, alongside Michael Boase on percussion and Ian Peres on bass and keys.
Butler’s only Australian date revealed thus far is part of Adelaide Guitar Festival 2025, with Butler supported by Emma Donovan when he takes to the stage at Her Majesty’s Theatre on September 10.
