Japanese punk rockers Hey Smith are making their Australian tour debut later this month. The raucous six-piece has locked in four shows with support from Cali punk greats Voodoo Glow Skulls and Melbourne ska favourites The Resignators.
The whirlwind tour begins in Adelaide at The Gov on Wednesday, November 27 and continues with stops in Brisbane at The Brightside on Thursday, November 28 and The Factory Floor in Sydney on Friday, November 29. The tour wraps up with all three acts performing at the Ska Nation International Music Festival in Colac on Saturday, November 30.
Adelaide and Brisbane fans can grab tickets via Oztix, Sydney music lovers through Ticketsearch and those wanting to go to Ska Nation International Music Festival can head to the festival’s website to score tickets.
Hey Smith was formed in 2006 in Osaka, Japan. The origin of the band’s name comes from “Smith” being the initials of each member, and “Hey” sounding like they’re in a good mood.
Well known throughout their home country for putting on energetic live shows, which include a rollicking brass section, Hey Smith has released nine albums across their nearly two-decade career, with 2023s Rest in Punk their most recent record.
Cali greats Voodoo Glow Skulls got their start in 1988 when friends Eddie Casillas, Jorge Casillas, Jerry O’Neill and Frank Casillas began performing backyard parties before releasing their debut album Who Is, This Is? via Dr. Strange Records in 1993.
Catching the ear of Epitaph Records head honcho Brett Gurewitz, the band signed with the famous label and released four records – Firme, their most successful album to date, followed by Baile de los Locos, Band Geek Mafia and Symbolic.
Voodoo Glow Skulls have gone on to tour the globe and have a worldwide fanbase that stretches from North America down to Australia. They signed with Victory Records in 2002 and dropped three albums before coming full circle and resigning with Dr. Strange Records for their most recent album, 2021s Livin' the Apocalypse.
Melbourne’s The Resignators have been thrilling audiences since bursting out in 2005. The seven-piece musical collective draws inspiration from ska acts such as The Specials, Madness, and The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, but also incorporates elements of rock, punk, reggae and metal into their ever-evolving sound.
Catch Hey Smith’s at The Gov on Wednesday, November 27. Tickets are on sale now via Oztix.
