Ascensions Fall – ‘The Almanac Penance’
Extreme symphonic metal is a sub-genre that embodies cinematic soundscapes immaculately. Blending intense heaviness with illustrious artistic arrangements that dive into classical explorations or synth-driven theatrics, it is a perplexing yet enrapturing adventure. Ascensions Fall is Ljem Mohor’s brilliant brainchild and an enchanting endeavour he executes alone. ‘The Almanac Penance’ embodies that astounding aura of a horror film soundtrack; the composition actually suits the 2017 movie The Ritual eerily well.

Revolver Magazine articulated that New Jersey mathcore pioneers The Dillinger Escape Plan were: “Possibly the world’s last truly dangerous rock band”. The outfit performed their farewell show on December 29th, 2017; however, a perfect storm of opportunities arose with the 25th anniversary of the quintet’s debut LP Calculating Infinity for a reunion tour with original vocalist (and firebreather) Dimitri Minakakis.
