London-based Aussie DJ, producer and songwriter HAAi (aka Teneil Throssell) has dropped her sophomore album, HUMANiSE.

The 17 track release includes the singles ‘Satellite’ (ft. Jon Hopkins, Obi Franky & ILĀ & TRANS VOICES), ‘Can’t Stand To Lose’, ‘Hey!’ and ‘Shapeshift’ (ft. KAM-BU) and explores living in an increasingly digital world.

“Throughout the album, I kept thinking about a machine with a human heart,” HAAi says. Normally hidden by a laptop or obscured behind the decks, more recently she was “inspired to return to my songwriting roots and use my voice more in my own music. It took a long time to get there, it’s such a vulnerable thing to do, but for this album, it was important for me to allow this ‘human heart’ to be front and centre.”

The album delves into unity and community, something HAAi showcases with the number of collaborations on the album. “Even though HUMANiSE is about how the world is starting to change beyond our control, it’s important to keep a sense of togetherness and hope,” HAAi explains.

Accompanying the release of HUMANiSE is a unique live performance of the album directed by New Vision Originals. Shot in on a set constructed to resemble an office from the ‘90s, with everything from fax machines and landline telephones to reams of A4 paper, HAAi and her collaborators - Jon Hopkins, Alexis Taylor (Hot Chip), Obi Franky, KAM-BU, TRANS VOICES, and poet Kaiden Ford - move in and out of the office as the album unfolds in real time.

The release of HUMANiSE is HAAi’s first major release since she dropped the DJ-Kicks compilation in 2023. Since then she’s been on an absolute tear, with her genre-blurring sound – incorporating everything from techno and UK bass to experimental electro and psych rock – turning dancefloors into sweat-filled pits of motion across the world.

Last year, HAAi performed 100 shows across 5 continents, 30 countries, and 91 cities. This year, HAAi has taken the stage at festivals including Coachella, Movement, and Glastonbury.

HUMANiSE continues HAAi’s evolution as an artist and we can’t wait for her to return home for a run of shows in the near future.

HUMANiSE by HAAi is out now via Mute. Listen here.
