Seminal Seattle grunge rockers Mudhoney return to Australia and New Zealand this October and November.

Since forming in 1988, Mudhoney have been a cornerstone of the grunge movement and the flagship act of indie label Sub Pop.

The quartet will perform a run of club shows both here in Oz and in New Zealand, along with headlining 4ZZZ FM’s Zed 51Z Festival.

Joining the band on tour for the Australian leg of the tour (except Ballarat and Byron Bay) are Californian trio Primitive Ring, featuring members of Ty Segall Band, Iggy Pop's band, Fuzz, GØGGS, Mikal Cronin and more.

The Australian shows begin in Melbourne at The Thornbury Theatre on Friday 16 October. Mudhoney then plays shows in Torquay, Castlemaine, Ballarat, Manly, Sydney, Newcastle, Brisbane and Byron Bay, before jumping on a jet heading to New Zealand. Here they will perform five shows in Christchurch, Wellington, Tauranga, Raglan and Auckland’s Double Whammy Sunday 1 November.

Tickets go on sale at 9am AEST Tuesday 30 June via pressplaypresents.com.

Inspired by Australia’s own The Scientists, Mudhoney rose from the ashes of the band Green River, with the current lineup featuring singer and rhythm guitarist Mark Arm, lead guitarist Steve Turner, bassist Guy Maddison and drummer Dan Peters.

Mudhoney have released 11 albums across their almost 40-year career, first breaking through in the early ‘90s with singles ‘Touch Me I’m Sick’ and ‘Suck You Dry’.

They continue to release music and tour the globe, with Eddie Vedder having this to say about Mudhoney’s legacy: “When it comes to grunge or even just Seattle, I think there was one band that made the definitive music of the time. It wasn't us or Nirvana, but Mudhoney. Nirvana delivered it to the world, but Mudhoney were the band of that time and sound.”
