The world-premiere celebration of a musical prophet is now coming to Adelaide's reborn Thebarton Theatre.

First announced as part of Melbourne’s RISING and Sydney’s Vivid LIVE festivals, the upcoming Gil Scott-Heron by Brian Jackson & Yasiin Bey concert is now making its way to Adelaide for a special presentation.
A celebration of jazz poet and singer Gil Scott-Heron, the performance brings together jazz and soul luminary Brian Jackson and hip hop legend Yasiin Bey for an evening of Scott-Heron's most famous works.
The American poet, musician and author, whose writing drew deeply from Harlem Renaissance poetics, rose to prominence in the ‘70s and ‘80s with his electric spoken word expressions exploring social and political issues of the time.
After performances at Sydney’s Opera House on Wednesday 27 May and Melbourne’s Forum on Thursday 28 May, Gil Scott-Heron by Brian Jackson & Yasiin Bey arrives at Adelaide’s Thebarton Theatre on Saturday 30 May.

Both Brian Jackson and Yasiin Bey are accomplished musicians who are excited to bring Gil Scott-Heron’s legacy to life.
Jackson is a jazz pianist, composer and arranger who met Scott-Heron at Lincoln University in 1969. Together, they released over nine albums and toured the globe, capturing the spirit of jazz, funk and social issues in their music.
Bey first found fame under the alias Mos Def, emerging in the 90’s with his take on modern conscious hip hop. Best known for the album The Ecstatic, along with his partnership with Talib Kweli as Black Star, Bey is one of hip hop’s most insightful voices.
