Bret McKenzie, one-half of Kiwi comedy duo Flight of the Conchords, is bringing his Freak Out City Tour to Australia this month.
Fresh from sold-out residencies in cities across the US and UK, McKenzie and his talented band are heading out way next week in support of his third studio album, Freak Out City, which dropped last year via Sub Pop Records.
Billed as a “variety-style live show”, fans can expect to hear newly-released songs alongside old favourites. McKenzie will also regale audiences with hilarious tales from his career and perform songs written during the show based on audience members’ real-life stories.
McKenzie’s Freak Out City Tour kicks off in Adelaide at The Gov on Thursday 19 March (tickets here), where he will be joined by comedian James McCann. The Aussie comic has been an Adelaide Fringe regular over the years and is also known for his appearances on live comedy show Kill Tony.
McKenzie then heads to Melbourne for two shows at Thornbury Theatre on Friday 20 March and Saturday 21 March, followed by a gig at Brisbane’s The Tivoli on Wednesday 25 March, and two tour-ending concerts (an early and a late show) at Sydney’s Factory Theatre on Friday 27 March.
Those keen on meeting McKenzie can grab VIP tickets that not only include entry to the show, but also early access to the venue, a souvenir VIP lanyard and a photo opportunity with McKenzie and his band with your own camera.
Tickets on sale for all shows at tegdainty.com.

Bret McKenzie got his start in 1998 alongside Jemaine Clement in the New Zealand musical comedy duo Flight of the Conchords. Starting life as a live comedy act, the duo had their own BBC radio series in 2005 before breaking out internationally with their hit television series Flight of the Conchords.
The Grammy and Academy Award winner has gone on to collaborate with a wide range of characters and people, including working with the likes of Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Celine Dion and Lizzo, to Tony Bennett, Ricky Gervais, and even Homer and Lisa Simpson.
His music has appeared in films such as A Minecraft Movie and Muppers Most Wanted, and his upcoming Australian tour is the perfect opportunity to see why McKenzie has been hailed as one of this generation’s great comedy writers.
