WOMADelaide and Northern Sound System Academy are teaming up once again to offer South Australian artists the opportunity to perform at the Academy Stage at WOMADelaide 2026.
The Academy Stage highlights 18-30-year-old artists from First Nations and culturally diverse backgrounds and is part of the WOMADelaide x NSS Academy music training and development program that has been running since 2020.
Debuting at WOMAD 2024, the Academy Stage has quickly gained a reputation for hosting dynamic performances and unforgettable moments, with the stage returning next year in a prime locale in Botanic Park/Tainmuntilla across the festival’s four days, from Friday 6 March to Monday 9 March.
Not only does the stage shine a spotlight on emerging young SA First Nations and culturally diverse artists, but it also gives sound and stage technicians who are part of the development program hands-on experience.
“The Academy Stage has become the launching pad for many of South Australia’s talented emerging artists,” said Bianca Nilsson, Project Coordinator for the WOMADelaide x NSS Academy.
For your chance to perform, you must be an artist or group aged between 18-30 with at least 50% of the group’s members currently residing in SA. You also need to be able to perform a 30-minute set of original music.
No genre is off limits, with artists from all backgrounds encouraged to apply before the 15 December deadline.
For the full application criteria and information, visit northernsoundsystem.com.au and follow @nothernsoundsystem on Instagram for updates.
