Bad news for fans of Finnish folk metal icons Ensiferum, with the band forced to postpone their upcoming Australian tour. The group’s flights were cancelled due to the current conflict in the Middle East, but Ensiferum have promised to return in 2027, announcing a slew of rescheduled dates.
“To all our fans in Australia, unfortunately, our airline has cancelled all of our return flights due to the routing through the Middle East,” the band announced in a statement. “We booked these flights back in December, but due to the current conflict, all our flights have been cancelled. This is a huge blow to us and is beyond our control. We tried many other ways to get down under, but with only weeks to go until the shows, this has become impossible.
“The band, management and the promoter have exhausted all options, there simply isn't anything we can do at such a late stage. Fear not, we are still coming. We have rescheduled the shows to April 2027, so please hang onto your tickets, they will remain valid. If the new dates don’t suit you, full refunds will be given. We thank you for your support, and we will see you at the new shows.”
As stated, these new shows will take place in April next year, with the Winter Storm Over Australia Tour now commencing in Adelaide at Lion Arts Factory on Tuesday 6 April. Ensiferum then play Brisbane’s Backroom on Wednesday 7 April, Canberra’s The Baso on Thursday 8 April, Sydney’s Crowbar on Friday 9 April and Melbourne’s Corner Hotel on Saturday 10 April, wrapping things up in Perth at Amplifier on Sunday 11 April.
Those keen on meeting the band can grab a limited number of special VIP Meet & Greet tickets that include a catch-up with the band, a complimentary Australian Tour Poster (which can be signed by the band), a VIP laminate and lanyard, three additional items from your own collection that can be signed by the band, a photo with the band on your own camera and early access to the merch stand.

Since the release of their first demo in 1997, Ensiferum’s profile has slowly grown over the years, resulting in the release of nine studio albums, with their most recent being last year’s Winter Storm, which includes the singles ‘Winter Storm Vigilantes’, ‘Long Cold Winter of Sorrow and Strife’, ‘Fatherland’, ‘The Howl’ and ‘Victorious’.
Despite several lineup changes over the years, the current crop of musicians (Markus Toivonen, Petri Lindroos, Sami Hinkka, Janne Parviainen and Pekka Montin) can’t wait to finally return to Australia next year, as it’s been close to a decade since their last visit.
