The Elder Conservatorium of Music, SA’s home of music education and one of the most forward-thinking musical institutions in the country, is hosting a special event – A Day At the Con on Saturday 30 August.
The open day allows secondary school students the chance to discover what The Elder Conservatorium of Music is all about.
A Day at the Con offers students a peek behind the curtain, giving them the opportunity to immerse themselves in a range of free workshops, masterclasses and group activities across the disciplines of classical performance, jazz performance, music theatre, music education and creative practice.
Those in attendance can take part in a host of programs, including studio recording workshops, learning how to use Ableton Live and watching rehearsals for an all-singing, all-dancing Music Theatre show. The day also features performances and demonstrations by Elder Conservatorium staff, current Conservatorium students and alumni.
Violinist and Head of Classical Performance at Elder Conservatorium, Dr. Elizabeth Layton, believes A Day at the Con is a great introduction for prospective students to learn more about The Elder Conservatorium of Music
“We love the opportunity to meet potential students, expand our community and celebrate our place as one of the nation’s leading music education facilities,” Dr. Layton said.
“A university application can feel like a daunting and impersonal process, and A DAY AT THE CON aims to provide access to staff and students as well as information through a program of performances and demonstrations that include Elder Conservatorium staff, students and alumni.
“Most importantly, the day is about welcoming the community into our close-knit family, which starts the moment you enter the wonderful world of the Elder Conservatorium.”
A Day at the Con is a free and ticketed event, and to celebrate the day, Elder Hall will host an exclusive ‘Elder After Hours’ concert, Beauty and Power, which stars acclaimed pianist Aura Go and cellist Timo-Veikko Valve. Tickets for the show are available here.
The Elder Conservatorium of Music’s A Day at the Con takes place Saturday 30 August. Register for tickets for this free event via humanitix.com. Students who register for A Day at the Con receive free admission (with a plus one) to the Beauty and Power concert. For more information about A Day at the Con, visit adelaide.edu.au.
