Dom Dolla’s ascension to the top of the Aussie dance music scene continues with the release of his latest anthem ‘girl$’.
The DJ and producer debuted the song during his Coachella set earlier this year, with bootleg versions appearing all over the internet. Thankfully for fans, Dom Dolla has shared a studio recording of the tune which is sure to be a staple at Saturday night kick-ons.
“‘Girl$’ was inspired by a conversation I had with a bunch of friends who were all tired of bad dates… and had eventually come to the conclusion they were giving up on the whole charade,” says Dom Dolla about the track. “In '24 we have so much choice. Nobody is limited by who they want to love or spend time with… whether that's a guy, girl, or even just relish in their own company.
The Grammy Award-nominated artist adds: “I wrote the lyrics based upon a story a friend relayed to me about a wild night out she had. I recorded it and heavily affected my vocals, but felt it needed a strong female performance.
”So I reached out to my good pal Caitlin Stubbs and asked if she was keen to re-perform the vocal; her voice is fantastic and suits the record so well. I even left some crumbs of my vocal in there too. I hope you all enjoy the record as much as I enjoyed making it.”
The release of ‘girl$’ comes as Dom Dolla enjoys the biggest year of his burgeoning career. Not only has the 'Take It' and 'San Frandisco' dance floor filler played Coachella’s Sahara Tent but he’s almost sold out his forthcoming Australian tour that kicks off in November.
Before that, he will headline his biggest American shows in LA, New York and San Francisco and play European festivals Reading & Leeds, Parklife Festival, Elrow, Tomorrowland, Emerge, Szigeit, and Brunch In The Park.
‘girl$’ is out now via Three Six Zero Recordings, Ministry of Sound (UK), and Sony Music(ANZ).
