One of Australia’s greatest songwriters of the past 30 years, Daniel Johns, is returning to the stage for the first time in five years for In Conversation With – a series of four nights of storytelling, film and music.
The Silverchair frontman is celebrating the release of his highly anticipated short film, What If The Future Never Happened?, with a run of shows where he will open up about his life.
Along with discussing his early years and creative process, Johns will share never-before-seen photos, moving archival footage and unreleased recordings from his personal collection – including bedroom demos recorded for Neon Ballroom and the original songwriting session demo of ‘Straight Lines’.
If that doesn’t get you excited, Johns will also chat about song ideas meant for the sixth Silverchair album that never happened and play new music from his solo career. No two nights will be the same as Johns gets up close and personal with fans, who are invited to submit questions pre-event in each city.
“What If The Future Never Happened? is equal parts reality and fantasy, and I’m as proud of it as anything I’ve ever done in my career. The orchestration took time, and the final result was worth it,” Johns says of his upcoming film.
“To celebrate the release of the reaturette, I’ll be sitting on stage, telling stories, taking the aux chord and sharing tunes that nobody has heard and sharing random ideas that couldn’t be realised or released. Basically, turning theatres into giant living rooms… it would be great if some people showed up, but I’m doing it anyway – you’re all invited!”
Daniel Johns In Conversation With tour takes in Sydney’s State Theatre on Saturday 1 November, Newcastle’s Civic Theatre on Friday 7 November, Brisbane’s Fortitude Music Hall on Sunday 9 November and Melbourne’s Palais Theatre on Thursday 13 November.
Frontier Member pre-sale begins Wednesday 24 September at 11am AEST. General on-sale begins Thursday 25 September at 1pm AEST. For full ticketing details, visit frontiertouring.com.

What If The Future Never Happened? is directed by James Medlam and described as “a genre-bending, semi-autobiographical featurette that puts reality and fantasy in a hyper-speed spin cycle.”
Set in 1994, the film follows soon-to-be teenage rockstar Daniel (actor Rasmus King), who, while escaping three bullies, meets a mysterious stranger who will change his future forever.
Produced by Clockwork Films in association with Daniel Johns, BMG and Winarch, the film blends sci-fi elements with semi-autobiographical moments from Johns’ life. The soundtrack features orchestral versions of Silverchair classics, with sound design by Adam Alexander from Bamm Bamm Wolfgang.
Although shot in 2022, Johns has waited until now to release the film to coincide with the 30th anniversary of Silverchair’s debut album, Frogstomp.
