After taking out the coveted Album of the Year Award at this year’s NIMA Awards, singer-songwriter Dan Sultan has today shared his latest single, ‘Do You See Me’.
A reflective ballad, the song has been 20 years in the making, with Sultan first performing the track live on Adam Hills’ UK series The Last Leg earlier this week.
In a statement about the track, Sultan says: “‘Do You See Me’ is a song that I began writing when I was 17 years old. I had written the outro chords and lyrics and felt it was really beautiful at the time. For one reason or another it wasn’t until earlier this year that I actually built a song around it. The song is about recognition, acceptance and acknowledgment or lack thereof in some cases.
“Like the song itself I guess you never know when things may fall into place…. It’s about beautiful things and acts being their own reward and finding peace in the ‘doing’ regardless of the outcome. As it turns out it’s very fitting that ‘Do You See Me’ took 20 years to write.”
Along with releasing ‘Do You See Me’ on streaming platforms, Sultan has revealed a music video for the tune directed by Michelle Pitiris. Shot at Bakehouse Studios, the clip features Sultan sitting at the piano performing ‘Do You See Me’ accompanied by a string section comprising violinists Madeleine Jevons and Jo Chung, viola player Ruby Shirres and cellist Hamish Jamieson. You can watch the music video below.

Sultan’s final show of 2024 is a special concert in Adelaide at the Festival Theatre featuring the ARIA Award winner performing with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra to commemorate the 10th anniversary of his hit album, Blackbird.
“I’m so excited to be working with the ASO,” Sultan said in a statement, adding that “putting this show together is all a bit of a dream and I can’t wait for us all to perform in Adelaide’s gorgeous Festival Theatre and treat local audiences to my many songs.”
