Adelaide’s very own comic book fest Papercuts Comics Festival returns this September in the Adelaide CBD.
The biennial event, supported by Creative Australia, CreateSA and City of Adelaide, showcases all things comics and graphic novels across the weekend of Friday 12 to Sunday 14 September.
The free three-day event not only features a huge variety of comics on show, but also hosts live readings, panel discussions, workshops and a massive marketplace where independent creators can sell their wares and interact with fans.
Comic artists and illustrators who have worked on titles including Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Godzilla, The Phantom, Wonder Woman and Batman will be in attendance, with founders and directors Georgina Chadderton and Owen Heitmann excited for their next instalment of their community building festival.
“We’re so excited to be unveiling the 2025 Papercuts Comics Festival program, especially after being honoured with a Ruby Award for Outstanding Community Event or Project last year,” say Chadderton and Heitmann.
“That incredible honour affirmed what we’ve always believed: that comics and zines are powerful, joyful and important. We’re passionate about making Adelaide a place where comics and their creators are celebrated, with a festival that welcomes superhero fans, zine makers, experimental artists and everyone in between. This year’s line-up brings together so many brilliant voices – from internet-famous stars to local favourites. We can’t wait to see the city buzzing with comics again this September.”

Each day of the festival has a special event which is sure to excite comic fans. Papercuts Comics Festival opens with Talking Pictures at Allan Scott Auditorium in UniSA City West (6:30pm-8:30pm). This fan favourite features an evening of visual storytelling from 11 artists and creators sharing a newly commissioned comic centred around the theme of nature.
Day two is headlined by the panel session Creators in Conversation. Held at the Adelaide City Library (10:45am-4:45pm), the event sees five panel discussions with a lineup of internationally acclaimed comic and graphic novel artists such as Evie “YEEVZ” Hilliar, Sam Wallman, Nicola Scott and Queenie Chan.
The third and final event on the last day of the festival sees the return of the popular Market Day at Adelaide Town Hall (11am-5pm). This is a fantastic opportunity for fans to meet and chat with more than 120 stallholders from across Australia.
