If The Piccadilly’s Here’s To Love series of romance films doesn’t tickle your fancy, maybe you’ll enjoy their curated range of crime films presented under the banner Gangster’s Paradise.
Running every Wednesday night for the next ten weeks, The Piccadilly will be screening some of the greatest crime capers and gangster flicks ever committed to celluloid.
Gangster’s Paradise bursts the doors down on Wednesday 13 August with a screening of Stanley Kubrick’s film noir, The Killing. Widely regarded as one of the greatest heist films and an inspiration for Quentin Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs, the film follows a gang that robs a racetrack, but when loyalties are tested, all hell breaks loose as each man tries to flee with the money.
Two acclaimed British films make up the screening – the Michael Caine vehicle The Italian Job and The Long Good Friday, arguably in the top five crime films of all time, thanks to a star turn from lead actor Bob Hopkins – along with several top-notch American flicks, including Goodfellas, Donnie Brasco and Pulp Fiction.
Australia is represented by Andrew Dominik’s Chopper, featuring a never-better Eric Bana as the titular debt collector, while Hong Kong mindbender Infernal Affairs also makes the curated list.
Gangster’s Paradise comes to a close on Wednesday 15 October, with a screening of the corrupt cop action drama Training Day, the film that won Denzel Washington the Oscar for Best Actor.
The Piccadilly’s Gangster’s Paradise program runs from Wednesday 13 August to Wednesday 15 October. Check out the full lineup of films and purchase tickets via wallis.com.au.
