Windwaker Share New Single 'dna' Ahead of Australian Tour

A month out from the release of their third studio album, smile, you're on camera, out Friday 23 October via Civilians and Fearless Records. Melbourne metalcore brutes Windwaker have gifted fans new single 'dna'.

Debuting on triple j last Friday (September 18) alongside a cover of The Kid LAROI's 'GIRLS' for Like A Version, 'dna' includes hip hop-inspired verses, crunching riffs and frontman Liam Guinane's epic scream.

"'dna' explores a deeply internal struggle with identity, self-worth and the feeling of being trapped by one's own nature," the band offers. 

"The song reflects on emotional instability and the pressure of living up to expectations, while battling impulses, ego, and the fear of never truly changing. There's a recurring tension between wanting growth and feeling stuck in destructive patterns, as if these flaws are hardwired into their 'DNA'.

"Another key theme here which is explored over the album is authenticity. References to 'doing it for the likes' and people 'switching sides' highlights disillusionment with superficial validation and fake personas, while the protagonist in this song tries to strip away ego and confront their true self."

The release of Windwaker's smile, you're on camera coincides with the five-piece's massive Australia tour with support from American outfit The Pretty Wild, playing Australia for the first time, RinRin and DREGG.

"We are so excited to bring our new album to life on stages all around Australia," says Guinane. "We’ve poured so much into this record, and we can’t wait to play these songs live for the very first time. We’re also so stoked to be bringing out The Pretty Wild for their Australian debut, along with a couple of our favourite Aussie artists. We hope to see you all there."

Windwaker's national tour gets underway at Perth's Magnet House on Friday 30 October, followed by shows at The Gov in Adelaide on Sunday 1 November, Melbourne's Northcote Theatre on Monday 2 November, Sydney's Metro Theatre on Thursday 5 November and Newcastle's King Street on Friday 6 November, with the final concert taking place at The Tivoli in Brisbane on Saturday 7 November.

Since forming in 2014, Windwaker have built a loyal following, both here and internationally, with their heavy emotive sound. Currently comprising vocalist Liam Guinane, guitarist Justin Keurntjes, bassist Indey Salvestro, drummer Chris Lalic, and synths/samples specialist Connor Robins, the band recently ticked off their first-ever US headline tour alongside If Not For Me and Colorblind.

The five-piece are set to return to North America after their run of Australian shows in November and December supporting Beartooth alongside Don Broco, before heading back to Europe in February with Bury Tomorrow and Stick To Your Guns.
