After a career spanning more than four decades, Brazilian heavy metal icons Sepultura are hanging up their instruments and calling it a day. Before they ride off into the sunset, the quartet have been touring the globe on their Celebrating Life Through Death farewell tour, which hits Australia this month.
Ahead of the Aussie leg of the tour, Sepultura have announced one final release: The Cloud of Unknowing EP, out Friday 24 April via Nuclear Blast Records (pre-order here).
The EP consists of four tracks and acts as both a celebration of the band’s legacy and a final goodbye, with vocalist Derrick Green having this to say about ‘The Place’, which is the first taste of the EP.
“This song deals with immigrants who have come to a place seeking refuge and start a new life. Once assimilated into a false sense of security and relentless propaganda, they began to act out against what they hate about themselves. The transition begins to escape from the self hatred and the lashing out against people who believed in the same ideas. I feel the lyrics truly follow the transitions of the song. Starting with disappointment and arriving at anger.”
Sepultura’s run of Australian shows follows sold-out concerts across Latin America, Europe and the US. “We’ve always had the best fans in the world, who supported us with praise and criticism, who were demanding and intelligent, who grew together with the band and have always been loyal,” the band says. “Without you, none of this would have been possible. This album and this tour are for you. Dear SepulNation, we love you and always will.”
Sepultura’s Celebrating Life Through Death tour begins in Perth at the Metro City on Friday 20 March. It continues with dates at Adelaide’s The Gov on Monday 23 March, Melbourne’s Northcote Theatre on Wednesday 25 March, Sydney’s Liberty Hall on Friday 27 March and Brisbane’s The Tivoli on Sunday 29 March.
