Aussie legend Peter Garrett has announced several special pub shows with his band The Alter Egos across Queensland and New South Wales later this year.

The announcement coincides with the Midnight Oil frontman landing a co-headlining spot on this year’s Queensland Music Festival bill.

Garrett will take to the stage alongside The Alter Egos, with this version of the band featuring Oil's legendary guitarist Martin Rotsey, Kram from Spiderbait (drums), Heather Shannon from The Jezebels (keyboards), Zoe Hauptmann (Missy Higgins, Neil Finn and Ian Moss) on bass and backing vocals from Grace and May Garrett (who perform together as Raintalker).

Fans can expect Garrett to perform tracks from his two solo albums, A Version Of Now and The True North - which both topped ARIA’s Australian Albums chart - along with a handful of Oil’s classics and a few random tracks, including Garrett’s 2025 cover of World Party’s ‘God On My Side’.

Peter Garrett & The Alter Egos kick things off at Sydney’s Mona Vale Hotel on Friday 20 November, followed by shows at Distillery Road Market in Eagleby on Thursday 26 November and Brunswick Heads Hotel Brunswick on Friday 27 November, finishing up with a co-headline slot on Saturday 28 Novemberat Queenscliff Music Festival.

Tickets for the three pub shows go on sale at 10am AEST on Tuesday 30 June via petergarrett.com.au. Tickets for Queenscliff Music Festival are on sale now via qmf.net.au.

Peter Garrett has had a long and impactful career, first as the frontman of Midnight Oil, then as a politician for the Labour Party. He’s also a fierce activist and environmentalist, and this May he was announced as the new Chair of Landcare Australia, a community of volunteers, bush and coast carers, farmers and conservationists dedicated to fostering productive and sustainable landscapes Australia-wide.

Garrett also helped lead the crowd-funded AUKUS Public Inquiry examining the $368 billion nuclear-powered subs plan, alongside commissioners including former head of the Australian Defence Force Admiral Chris Barrie (Ret’d) and the ex-premier of Western Australia, Carmen Lawrence.

“You don’t have to doom scroll for too long these days to know that we urgently need to change how we treat our country and each other”, Garrett explained. “Music has always been a vital way to express thoughts and feelings about the world around us and while a fair bit of my time is now spent on these other roles I really can’t wait to get back onstage for a few nights and make some sweet noise with my mates.”
