Music & Art Meet As Part of ILA's Upcoming 'Art of Takayna' Exhibition

Presented by Bob Brown Foundation and Immersive Light and Art (ILA), Art of Takayna is a new immersive experience taking over the celebrated gallery from Friday 18 September to Saturday 10 October.

The exhibition features a powerful collection of work spanning photography, painting, film and more, created by Australian artists that highlight the wonder of Takayna, Australia’s largest temperate rainforest.

Located in Tasmania, the area has remained mostly unchanged since the time of the Palawa Ngini (the Old People) and is a critical refuge for endangered wildlife, but is currently under threat from mining and logging.

This exhibition hopes to shine a light on Takayna and aid in conservation efforts to keep it safe.

Along with a special screening of  a film by Adelaide's own Dave McEvoy that sees him improvising on a grand piano as the forest wakes at dawn, there is an accompanying musical program that complements Art of Takayna.

The Anya Anastasia Trio, Naomi Keyte Trio and Tessa Leon and Dave McEvoy Trio are all performing live at ILA during Art of Takayna's run, with tickets for all three on sale now at immersivelightandart.com.au.

Anya Anastasia, an alum of Bob Brown Foundation’s annual Art For Takayna artists' residency, is launching her new single, 'Takayna', at ILA on Saturday 19 September. Anastasia will perform the song, which is a tribute to the creatures of the forest, along with other songs from her catalogue, accompanied by cellist Clara Grant and bassist Jamie Lena.

Songwriter Naomi Keyte will be joined by fellow vocalist Grace Mensforth and guitarist Django Rowe for a stunning night of live music, surrounded by footage of Takayna playing on the ILA screens, on Friday 25 September. Stirring spoken-word artist and advocate Tessa Leon will open the evening with a special performance accompanied by Adam Whiting on guitar.

Joined by vocalist Lauren Henderson and bassist Tasha Stevens, Dave McEvoy has locked in two performances on Friday 9 and Saturday 10 October, exploring our relationship as humans with nature.
