Heavy music fans are losing their shit after Metallica teased an Australian return. The legendary quartet responsible for some of the biggest thrash metal albums of the 80s announced a 21-date North American tour last night (September 19). They also revealed they plan to make the journey Down Under very soon.
After news of their tour broke, Live Nation took to social media to post an image of the band with the caption: “Sign up to be the first to know.” Next to the comment are several emojis and a link that takes you to a page where you can join the Metallica waiting list email.
Metallica themselves released a lengthy statement about their upcoming North American shows on their website and signed off by teasing an Australian tour.
“Finally, North America is not our only stop in 2025, as this year, we will return to Australia and New Zealand after far too long away!!! Stay tuned for the full announcement coming VERY soon.”

The North American dates run from April to June 2025 and include solo shows and Metallica’s famous ‘No Repeat Weekend’ concerts. These spectacular events involve the band playing two nights in a row a the same venue with completely different setlists for each night and different opening acts.
Details are scarce about when the tour will take place but Metallica’s calendar is clear after their North American tour ends in June, meaning they will most likely lock in dates towards the back end of 2025. AFL pre-game Grand Final entertainment anyone?
Due to the production of their recent tours, which include the ‘Snake Pit’ – a monster circular stage that’s placed in the centre of venues to allow fans 360 degree views of the band – Metallica will need to perform in stadiums to accommodate all their gear.
When dates are announced, it will be the first time James Hetfield, Kirk Hammett, Lars Ulrich and Robert Trujillo have performed in Australia since 2013 when they were part of the Soundwave Festival lineup.
