After dazzling fans as Ben Folds’ opener on his recent run of Australian shows, Lindsey Kraft returns to Adelaide for her debut Fringe show, Lindsey Kraft + A Piano Present: We’ve Been Here Before.
Taking over The Arch at Holden Street Theatre from Saturday 7 March to Sunday 22 March (tickets on sale here), Kraft’s new creation is a piano-driven show that’s both outrageously funny and deeply personal.
With Ben Folds on board as musical director and co-director, and also sharing the stage with Kraft as her “band”, We’ve Been Here Before is a semi-autobiographical show highlighting Kraft’s rapid-fire wit and storytelling skills.
“I came to Australia 25 years ago as a student, feeling lost but knowing I had something to say,” says Kraft. “I’m still that same scrappy kid, I just didn’t realise then that my voice would come through music. Returning now to debut at Adelaide Fringe feels like coming full circle. We’ve been here before.”
This semi-autobiographical piece is about breaking seemingly impossible personal cycles through creativity. Kraft explains, “I wasn’t listening to myself until I began writing songs - free therapy!”
Lidnsey Kraft has been a successful actor for more than two decades. The American has starred in films including Epic Movie, Newly Single and Nostalgia, along with television productions such as Getting On, Grace and Frankie and Living Biblically.
Deciding on a slight career change in her late 30s, Kraft taught herself to play piano. Four and a half years later, and We’ve Been Here Before was created – a semi-autobiographical musical theatre production that blends humour, vulnerability and insight.
Catch Lindsey Kraft’s Lindsey Kraft + A Piano Present: We’ve Been Here Before at The Arch at Holden Street Theatre from Saturday 7 March to Sunday 22 March. Tickets on sale now at adelaidefringe.com.au.
